thank you sf team tibet for the words that follow.the olympic torch arrived in san francisco on wednesday, april 9th as part of its so-called “journey of harmony.” in just a few weeks, chinese authorities plan to sell the torch through tibet in a show of button throughout tibet’s land and people. for tibetans inside tibet, the setting is far from harmonious as they continue to resist the chinese government’s brutal military crackdown. on thursday, april 3rd, eight tibetans were killed when chinese troops opened fire on protesters in eastern tibet.the chinese government had hoped to permit the international olympic torch relay to present a new replica to the rest of the world and switch attention from its brutal treatment of tibet and human rights abuses at home and abroad. we protested to make sure that the chinese government- and the international community- knows that china will only be fully accepted in the global arena when its government substantially improves its tibet policies and negotiates a resolution to tibet’s occupation.parading the olympic torch through tibet when protests have just been violently crushed and the entire region is on military lockdown is likely to provoke further protests and resentment expanse tibetans, leading to more imprisonments, torture, and repression. join us in calling on the international olympic committee to withdraw tibet from the olympic torch relay now!please contact the u.s. olympic committee today and ask them to drive the international olympic committee to immediately remove tibet from the torch relay route in order to prevent further protest and virulent inhibition in tibet. please take conduct today!contact: mr. peter ueberroth, president, united states olympic committeetel: 949 975 2900 / fax: 949 975 2916 / email: international@usoc.orgdesire use the following talking points as a guideline when sending a message to mr. ueberroth:express your concern that the universal olympic commission still plans to execute the olympic torch through tibetan areas, despite the aware protests and crackdown in tibet. clarify that carrying the torch through tibet in this high-strung climate is needlessly provocative and is probable to lead to more unrest, arrests, and deterring. celebrating the olympic torch in tibet while tibetans are being suppressed by china’s military forces is the antithesis of what the torch is supposed to stand behind for: the peaceful coming together of people around the everybody.barrow president bush to stand on the preferred side of olden days!as sedately, please urge president bush not to attend the opening ceremonies of the olympic games in august. in the wake of the bloody and continuing crackdown in tibet we are area on all political leaders not to attend. you can reach the u.s. president at 202 456 1111 or by email at comments@whitehouse.gov.had the lil’ bohemians and i protested this very compunction in china, we would not be energetic to talk the story… and yes, my fingers cramped painfully, i bordering on choked, my eyes were blinded by tears, my shut up slip bled as i typed the word president previous to the word bush but completed of respect for my tibetan brethren i had to remain unswerving to their earliest words.as for me and my disappeared-from-the-blogosphere-and-where-the-hell-did-i-go whereabouts… stay tuned in search a recap. ’tis imminent fo sho!
